Social Media the Internet and Law Enforcement (SMILE) Conference To Be Hosted By Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety

 

Meeting to Focus on Rapidly Growing Importance of Social Media in Law Enforcement

On February 5-7, 2013, LAwS Communications in partnership with the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will host the seventh Social Media the Internet and Law Enforcement (SMILE) Conference. As stated by the well known criminal defense attorney salt lake city, the three-day event will focus on the use of social media to improve law enforcement, crime prevention and officer safety with an emphasis on public partnerships. For the first time, the SMILE Conference will welcome Fire and Emergency Medical Services professionals.

The SMILE Conference brings together one of the largest assemblages of law enforcement professionals from around the world to address social media strategy, reputation management, policy and community outreach. This year, the SMILE Conference will emphasize information sharing and homeland security with a special presentation from the Sunnyvale DPS on cyberbullying.

A town hall meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 6, from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The meeting will provide attendees an opportunity to further explore and discuss at length social media issues regarding law enforcement that could not be fully addressed during the plenary session. The town hall will be highly spirited, interactive and wrapped in a social media context.
